As individuals, as professionals, and as a firm, it’s the time of year that we tally up the results of the last 12 months. We count our wins, we analyze our numbers, and we make plans for improvements in the year ahead.
However, we always find that the accounting that means the most to us is not what we brought into the firm, but instead, what we were able to give back to the community.
Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “Everyone can be great, because everyone can serve.” In this respect, Maryann Sarris Brousseau, our firm’s founder, was truly great. She served her family, her friends, her clients, and her community with everything she had in time, resources, and spirit. By her example, we, as a firm, endeavor to serve our community as best we can, so that we can continue her legacy of giving.
This year, members of our firm gave their time by sorting vegetables at North Texas Food Bank, leading a Cub Scout den, actively participating as board members, and taking on pro bono cases through the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program and other sources. As a firm, we donated funds to Goodwill Dallas, Austin Street Center, Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center, and Cristo Rey Dallas College Prep. We sponsored and participated in fundraising events for Dallas Academy, Cara Mia Theatre, The Lamplighter School, and Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
Throughout it all, we found ourselves inspired, energized, and fulfilled by the possibilities that greatness can bring—to ourselves, our firm, and the community we serve.
We can all give. We can all be inspired. We can all be great. As we close out this year and plan for the new one, we will challenge ourselves and the firm to reach higher, dig deeper, and give more so we can carry on Maryann’s legacy of service.
